RUBBER ROOFING

Rubber Roofing Contractors available in Nottingham, Sheffield, Mansfield, Chesterfield and throughout the East Midlands

Rubber Roofing, also known as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) is the process of installing an extremely durable synthetic rubber membrane over a flat, low-sloping or traditional roof.

Its two primary ingredients, ethylene and propylene, are derived from oil and natural gas and the product is available in various widths and thicknesses.

Installing a rubber roof is a modern alternative to the traditional methods of bitumous felt and can have many advantages over its predecessor.

The advantages of EPDM - Rubber Roofing

One of the big advantages of EPDM applications is that most roofs can be laid in a single piece, which means there are no seams or very few, depending on the exact size/ layout of the roof. Fewer seams mean fewer places for water to seep, therefore reducing the potential for property damage. Also, because modern rubber is not susceptible to the sun’s UV and ultraviolet rays, a properly-installed rubber roof can last in excess of 50 years.

Another large advantage of rubber is that if the roof ever does spring a leak, repairs are fast, easy and extremely inexpensive.

EPDM is also one of the ‘greenest’ choices that a homeowner can make. The rubber itself takes less energy to produce than most other roofing materials and is often made from recycled materials to begin with. Lets also not forget that the roof will be 100% recyclable at the end of its long life.

Rubber offers excellent fire resistant properties. Not only is such a roof almost impossible to set afire, even with a lightning strike, but the rubber is actively resistant to all forms of fire and can even slow a fire to the point that allows time for help to arrive.

Here at J M Hill we have an experienced team on hand to offer advice and guidance on any roofing project that may benefit from Rubber Roofing.
